Description

This tour is for the birder and general audience alike.  This trip progresses at a slow to moderate pace to look at the birds and also to observe the surrounding habitats, and signs of other wildlife.  Whenever possible, herbs, shrubs, and tree identification will also enter the mix.  This is a great trip for people with various levels and types of background to contribute or to soak up some of the knowledge being shared by others.  If youngsters are included on this trip, time is taken to ensure they also gain some insight and experience with the fabulous offerings of Odiorne Point State Park.   At least 4 persons needed to run this tour. (Available Year Round).

Trail Conditions:  Trails are  in excellent condition.  Sturdy footwear is recommended for both comfort and protection.  There is very little elevation gain  so steepness is not much of a factor for walking.  However, the option to walk onto the rocky/stony beaches to examine tide pools is available.

What to Expect: Bugs: During Spring and Summer, blackflies, mosquitoes, deerflies, and greenheads can be challenging.  Have long sleeve shirts and pants accessible.   Heat and humidity: Summer and Fall temperatures and humidity can run high, but be aware that coastal temperatures typically run 5-10F cooler than inland.  Be prepared by having layers of clothing that can be donned and removed to match your own comfort level.  One can always expect the reality of field conditions to push one outside of their comfort level, either from bugs or from the weather.  A light raincoat is recommended to layer against wind and/or rain exposure.  Carry items in a backpack so you can have hands free.

Suggested Items to Bring:  Binoculars, camera, field guides, hat, appropriate footwear and clothing for the conditions, rain gear, drinking water, sunscreen. A backpack to carry your gear.  I have spotting scope and field guides available for use.
